Deep Tissue Massage
As the name suggests, deep tissue massage works on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue in an effort to release chronic patterns of tension.
Deep tissue massage usually focuses on a particular problem area such as:
Chronic pain
Limited mobility
Recovery from injuries
Repetitive strain injury
Postural problems
Muscle tension or spasm
Deep Tissue Massage is about working with the deeper layers of muscle tissue and fascia. Muscle’s are layered and I use techniques that affect the muscles under the superficial layer of muscle. I am also looking for trigger points which are points in the muscles that are holding a lot of tension. Increased blood flow and using techniques to release the trigger points will have a positive effect on the metabolism of the muscle fibres and will encourage the nervous system to release the muscle tension.
There is a misconception that it is all about applying a lot of deep heavy pressure, when this is not the case. You can have a deep tissue massage without it feeling too painful. I will always check in with you on how the pressure is feeling and ask you to feedback to me if the pressure is too much. It is important to notify me if you experience any pain or discomfort outwith your comfort range.
It is possible that you might feel some tenderness the day after a deep tissue massage, but this should feel better in a day or so.
